Smile Attfield part of the McKay Clan

Im from Vancouver Island, British Columbia/Canada; My Grandmother on my Dads side was a McKay from Saskatchewan..It appears her earliest McKay ancestor came from Scotland in the early 1700s his name was Richard McKay.now thats really cool.

According to a cursory search, Attfield is an English name from the southern counties!

It would not appear to be claimed as a sept by the Mackays - even the Canadian Mackays! http://www.clanmackay.ca/Septs.html

Not really! All it proves is that you may have SOME Scots ancestry. You need to dig and find details of the Canadians before you can start trying to find out where in Scotland one ancestor may have originated. There's no short cut, I'm afraid.

The fact that your Dad's family originated in England and carry an English name would surely make you more interested in finding out about his family lines from England.

Or did you see Braveheart?

I'm a descendant of Angus Dubh Mackay.

My full title, bestowed at birth is: Michael, son of Douglas, son of Alexander, son of Thomas, son of Alexander, sons of the Royal and Ancient House of Mackay, defenders of the realm and protectors of the faith.

Alternatively, I may have just made that up.

Smile thanks for the insight.

But so everyone is aware,im not in this to see if i have famous people or royalty in lineages. I am simply interested and fascinated with expoloring family history. I have by the way done extensive research for the Past several years and am very familiar with the Attfield family history. That however is only half of my Dads lineage there is another half , for those who cant figure out that there are 2 sides in every family.and thats the McKay side. Oh heres another shocker i just recently learned that my mothers ancestry goes back to Scotland as well, that im sure will be an interesting journey for when im finished this endevour..i<ll post again real soon, have a fantastic day everyone.....
