Oh, ye gods, you are right. Now THAT does seem to be new, and NOT at all good, or even civil.

The thing is, if I (and I am sure this goes for most people) see that a word or phrase WITHIN a member's post is clearly a link, then I assume that it was done deliberately by that poster, just as some sort of useful thing. In other words, a relevant and useful link. Now I did not, of course, click on that link word that said "birth certificate", thinking, well, yes, this is not Wiki, I do usually know what is meant by "birth certificate, blah, blah ..."

BUT, now that you have pointed this out, and then I did click that link, I found that, not only does it seem like a complete misrepresentation of a member's posting, but, adding insult to injury, the site to which the imposed link leads looks like the sort of thing that would turn up only in anyone's Spam box.

NOT good at all.

Yes, I really do want to know what the F.B.I. has about me. Yes, I really do want to track down someone else

Aye, right.

I suppose that must be handy for some certain persons, but I can NOT see how it is reasonable to insert such links into the posts of message board members, letting it appear as though the poster does, in fact, support such a site.

Thus far, it is the first I have noticed this (not that I did, of course, but am glad to have it drawn to my attention), and so far, I cannot see why this is at all ethical.

Sorry, this has been perhaps a little off topic, for which I apologise, but I remain glad to have someone make me notice this thing. I really hope this is just some sort of odd glitch, because otherwise it is misrepresenting the posts of members here and does not seem good at all.

Busy with stuff to do soon, but back to this subject later, probably making another thread for this question.

Celyn, your post might have been off-topic, but it was relevant to something within the topic! Any chance you can move your actual comment to the feedback and we could discuss this disgusting new tactic by the owners of this site to make yet more money off us!

I suspect it will put off the 'real' members here from posting. I also think it's a bare-faced cheek. As Celyn said, it looks as though YOU had put in those links when you hadn't.... sleekit, eh?

The forum owners are not interested in the real members though are they?

Celyn, I have started a post about this in the feedback section of the forum! I'm particularly interested to read what the admin has to say about this - no doubt he/she will fully support it!

Arrow Re:

Supposedly the entire great Donald/MacDonald/McDonald clan is descended from King Somerled, the only problem is it is extremely hard to prove how exactly you are related. I can't even find any information on my MacDonald ancestor who came to Nova Scotia with his brother who was born in 1820. But maybe someday every person with the surname Donald/MacDonald/McDonald or descended from those bearing the name will know, it's the closest thing to impossible but you never know. Good luck to you in your research!
