Hardys or Hardie of Aberdeenshire
Hi I am looking for information on my great great grandfather. He was born around 1762 in Aberdeenshire according to his tombstone. He came to Canada with his brother George and went to the Ottawa Area. Later he was a foreman when they built Fort Henry in Kingston On. Canada. Prior to that he must have been in the army. He recieved a land grant in Halton County ON as a retired soldier.
His brother George was a watchmaker and we think he went to the US. Can anyone help me to locate information on any of these two people. My grandfather's name was Andrew Hardy and he married Janet Douglas in Canada. She was evidently about 33 years younger than him. I think she came from the same area. I know nothing about her at all. |

Hardys or Hardie of Aberdeenshire
I already posted but got no replies. According to some information forwarded to me there is a book in the US called Hardy/Hardie and in that book my great great grandfather Andrew Hardy is listed as the son of the De. Robert Hardy a presbyterian minister in Aberdeen. Andrew is listed there as born in 1771 but on his tomebstone it says he was born in 1762. Listed with him are his brother George b 795, brother James and sister Isobell. It also says he lived near Ashgrove, Halton Co. ON. So far that part seems correct although the birth date is not the same and I know nothing about a James or Isabell.
We believe he came over to Canada to Ottawa with his brother George about 1810. George is thought to have been a watchmaker and went to the US. Andrew went to Kingston and in 1816 or thereabouts was a stonemason, foreman working on the building of Fort Henry. He was given a land grant as an ex soldier, moved to Halton Co. Married Chrisina Douglas who was a lot younger than him, helped found Boston Church in the Scotch Block of Esquesing twp and fathered 6 children. Could anyone help me verify any of this, especially the part about his father Dr. Rober Hardy. |
