Just wondering if anyone out there could help me......... I'm looking for Livingston(e)s still living in Scotland. I have been doing research on my Livingston side now for a few years and it has been traced back quite a ways !! I was hoping that I could find and maybe even correspond with anyone from the same line !! I am a decendent of the Rev. John Livingston and Janet Fleming. Their son Robert came to the US in 1673. I know Robert had several brothers and sisters who stayed in Scotland after their father(Rev.John) had been banished to Rotterdam. I was just wondering if there are any of them still out there ?? I wait with deep anticipation and HOPE !!!Brenda

THANK YOU Polwarth and Mcdink for your replies !!!! I have found that Livingston(e)s are a sept of The Stewarts of Appin, but still wasn't sure if I was part of that line of not. I was just hoping to get to know some of the Livingstons and possibly even meet up with 1 or 2 when I finally make a trip to Scotland. I already have plans to some day meet up with the epals I have made in Scotland !! What a lovely bunch of people !!! Thanks again for your replies !!

Thanks again Polwarth !! I know the whole thing is a daunting adventure....not to be taken lightly !! I have, in part, the family line back to the 1200's or there abouts.... done by one of the Livingstons back in the 1800's........ he wrote a couple books as well. It just makes everything even more questionable as far as where they were.....all over really, but the book 'Livingston's of Callendar' has somewhat put me in the right direction !?!

Then use the telephone director and key in Livingston(e) and Callender or perhaps Aberfoyle or Stirling (all nearby).... that would at least give you an idea of how many Livingstons still reside in that area today.
PS I'd also be VERY cautious about using stuff written in the 1800s and purporting to trace a family line back to 1200.... I would urge you to do your own digging, rather than relying on what can often be flights of fancy and wishful thinking by people in earlier generations. |
