Please help.......Wakenshaw

I am looking for relatives the may or may not be living. I am currently located in Canada but I will post the information I do have. Unfortunately this information is from a marriage certificate from 1944. Muriel married in 1944(married name DMYTROWICH), I believe had a child while still in Edinburgh in 1946, and then eventually came to Canada. She only stayed a few years and went back to the UK where I believe she went on to remarry have 2 more children. I do not wish to intrude on anyone, I would appreciate some medical history if I could find that out. I have done a lot of research from here but am only getting so far. I would appreciate ANY help anyone can give.

Privacy Laws would only allow immediate family to view "modern" records after providing some valid reason for looking at such records.

The public domain only covers up to 1955 for deaths, 1939 for marriages and 1905 for births and 1901 for UK censuses.

Posting on general genealogy forum like this one will require a lot of luck that someone who knows this family from within replies. Not impossilbe but not likely.

You could try contacting parish churches in St. Giles but...

This is incorrect.

If you pay a personal visit to New Register House, Princes Street, Edinburgh (or pay someone to do it for you) you are able to search the indexes of births, deaths and marriages from 1855 to 18 months prior to your search date. The dates you refer to only apply for arms length searched on the internet via Scotland's People.

If you wish to search the registers then you will need to pay someone.

In the case of medical records, these are destroyed after 25-30 years or so from when someone dies. In any case in the UK they are confidential. Over here in the UK it has only been possible in the last 15 years or so for you to be able to read your OWN RECORDS, let alone anyone elses!

The census is closed for 100 years, so you will not be able to review 1911 until January 2012.

My daughter was searching on the internet and came across your request for information about Muriel Wakenshaw. Muriel was my Aunt (my Father's sister) and she has been dead for about 25/26 years or so. I appreciate it is 10 months since you posted your initial request for assistance and you may no longer be interested in collecting information on my Aunt, but before I am prepared to try and help you, I feel I have a right to ask who you are and why you are so interested in my her, particularly with regards to her health. I must be honest and say I have very little to offer but as her son passed away last year and her daughter is lost to the family what little I have to offer may be the only information available to you. For the UK that may be true (I am unsure), but many countries including Canada already allow access to the 1911 census, I myself have access to the 1911 Canadian census.
