Need help with information on Jane Brown

Hi everyone,
I have recently began to trace my ancestry and need help find any information with regards to JANE BROWN. She was born about 1790 and married a Frederick Charles Strasenburgh on October 30th 1807 in South Leith , Midlothian. She died in 1858. I would love to find out the names of her father and mother but i have no idea where to begin. Any help or advice would dearly be appreciated.
Best Regards
Richie.

Hello
Have you tried the GRO? They charge for some services, but as long as you marshall your questions ahead of time, it's not too expensive.

Jane Brown

Hi Ritchie
As Polworth said, try scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Assuming that your Jane Brown was still in Scotland when she died, then you will be able to get a copy of her death cert; which will give you her parents names along with other valuable info, cost will be no more than £6: regards, Brandane

Richie, where are you? When i was doing some of my own research i went to a Family Society in Aberdeen.... they had loads of genealogical records but only a teeny tiny fraction of it was available online. There are volunteers there who are so knowledgeable, and they were very kind and helpful. I'm wondering if you can travel to the nearest center where your records are likely to be kept, or if not, if you might be able to enquire from them by mail or email?

A very brief search turns up:
Jane Brown, B. March 21, 1788 Springfield, Lasswade, Midlothian

Father:Thomas Brown, b. @ 1757 Lasswade, Midlothian
Mother:Elizabeth Brown b. @ 1761 Lasswade, Midlothian
Sister: Katherine Brown b. December 26, 1783 Viewfield, Midlothian

There were also:
Jean Broun, b. Aug. 15, 1788 South Leith, Midlothian. Father - George Broun, Mother - Margaret Balfour

Jean Broun, b. May 23, 1789 South Leith, Midlothian. Father - William Broun, Mother - Jean Aitken

Jean Brown, christened June 13, 1789, Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh. Father - James Brown, Mother - Isobella Stewart

Jean Brown, christened July 10, 1789, Saint Cuthberts, Edinburgh. Father Thomas Brown, Mother Eleanor Alexander.

I also found a record of the marriage. It lists the bride as Jean Brown, groom - Frederick Strasburgh in North Leith.

Brown was a very common name - so you may need to find some other 'connecting' information to go on. It looks as though the records exist - you just need to find out which one is yours.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all of your help

Hi everyone
i,d just like to thank those of you who replied to my post for your help and advice. I,ve since found out by looking on the LDS website ( church of later day saints ) that infact her name was Jean and not Jane as i had been made to believe by a distant cousin . I have also looked at the scots origins website and this also has her name as Jean. I shall now dig deeper and see what else i can come up with ----- once again i appreciate all of the advice and help
Regards
Richie
