When i get a chance i will traul the old threads looking to see if anyone has brought this name up before... but i'm wondering about the general origins of the name?

I originally thought it was Nordic, but recently came across references that it is Scottish (though there are some other Slimans of different origin, this would have to be Scottish or Nordic descent) and though i'm finding individual names... for instance the Fife Family Society lists some Slimans in the 1700's... i'm not finding any general information as to origin. The commercial coat of arms websites claim to have a coat of arms for Sliman... but as most people who do genealogy know, coat of arms websites prostitute themselves to anyone who will pay! If i paid them a fee, I betcha i could get a coat of arms for my bookcase! LOL

Anyway, i want to surprise a friend with some info on their family name, so if anyone knows, would you let me know? Thanks!!!

oh!... P.S...

the name isn't on Electric Scotland, i already tried that... but i've noticed even Electric Scotland does not have a complete listing of Scottish surnames.

Slimon

The earliest mention of the name Slimon that I can find is in Perthshire in the 15th century.

In the IGI for British Isles there are 1,182 names and variations of them in there,... Slymon, Sliman, Slimin, Slimman and Slimming.
