Edward Campbell b 1725 1st cousin to Duke of Aryle

I have been researching an ancestor: Margaret Campbell Payne b 1783 VA USA d 1829 KY USA. Her parents are listed as Benjamin Clarke Payne and Jane Campbell. Now, according to the book written about the Payne family of VA Jane Campbell was from Scotland and her father was Edward Campbell (listed in the CCSNA site as b 1725) and her mother was Margaret Conner.According to the Payne book he was the 1st cousin of the Duke of Argyle. Doesn't say which Duke. Any information on either of these two would be great!
