Hi,
This isn't exactly Geneology but I'm not sure who else to ask. My great uncle has been searching to find his grandfathers grave (who was killed in war). The only problem is we don't have any military details of him (like his rank or regiment) I do have alot of stuff including his birth and maraige certificates (print outs from scotlandspeople.com) Can anyone help? Thanks alot for your time, Andy |

Hello
I'm assuming your relative's war service was in the British Forces? If so, the Army records are available - but many pre-1921 records were destroyed in a fire. However, some were saved. Have a look at this website - there are similar websites for the Navy and the RAF. I hope this may be of some help to you! http://www.mod.uk/contacts/army_records.htm |

Thanks, yeah I pretty sure he was in British Forces. my great great granmother only ever said he went to war, when she was asked about him.
Thanks for the site but we have already tried the mod and they can't help since we don't have any military details like rank, regiment, date joined or anything Thanks, Andy |

I have just come back from being on holiday and read your post. Can you supply his name and nationality and if he had a middle name, I will see what I can turn up at this end. with a little luck we might just get there.
regards, Marhar

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission have a website. You can input the name of your relative into it. It will then confirm if they are buried in a Cemetery or commemorated on a Memorial maintained by them. It will also give details of the whereabouts of the Cemetery and the grave within it.
I cannot remember the link address. However, I am sure that you would get a link using the name in a search engine. |
