Hi all! This is a poem written by a great, great (?) aunt (passed away several years ago) of mine about a part of my family tree. It starts with my great, great grandfather. Just curious to see if any of the names will ring a bell with anyone. "The Dugan Campbell Family" written by Mary (Cline) Campbell. He was only a lad from Canada, or so the story goes, And he came here to Michigan, and courted a girl named Rose. And when he asked for the hand, of this charming little lass, Bashfully she whispered, I thought you'd never ask. And so the two did marry, and a home for them did find, And he brought home the bacon, from the blacksmith out behind. And before she became a woman, In fact just sweet 16, a little baby daughter, had arrived upon the scene. To them Ethel was the fairest, of all little girls, with her big shiny eyes, and dark tangled curls. Number 2 was soon, to follow number one, And this time it proved to be, a husky little son. He was sturdy, and fair of face, And the little lad, Was known as Ace. Number 3 was another girl, rosy and gay, and they called her, little Mae. Number 4 filled, his father's heart with joy, for Arthur was, his second boy. Number 5 arrived, on a bright fall day, And mother said, to call this one Jay. Number 6 was a little girl, sweet and small, and little Lila, was loved by all. Another bundle, was due from Heaven, And baby Eldon, became number 7. They all grew up, both girls and boys, and filled their parents' lives with joys. When Ethel left home, it sure was a loss, but she fell in love, with handsome Bruce Ross. Ace grew up, with laugh hearty and loud, and married the lovely, Florence McLeod. Mae didn't wander, far from home, but married a neighbor boy, Russell McComb. Young Arthur was small, but really tough, and the girl he chose, was Velma Woodruff. Jay worked hard, through sunshine and rain, and finally married, Vina Cain. From home Lila said, she would never part, But young Frank Galbraith, stole her heart. Little Eldon grew up, Manly and fine, And shared his life with, Mary Cline. But this wasn't the end, No, not at all, For many followed, both big and small. Grandchildren, and great grandchildren, by the score, and of course I know, There will be many more. And it all started, as everyone knows, When Dugan Campbell, married Rose. Ace was my Great grandfather, and his daughter (my grandmother) is now 85. If any of these names ring a bell with anyone, please let me know. If not, then I hope you enjoyed the poem. What an ambitious lady Aunt Mary was! I didn't know her well, but as fate would have it, about 10 years ago I started my nursing career as an aide in a nursing home, and for the 2 years I was there, I took care of my Aunt Mary. Thank you all for letting me share this! Becky.

Becky,
Didn't recognize any names either, but I'm a Campbell born and bred in Virginia, where a lot of Campbell's and heirs remain. Loved the poem, your aunt was a great lady to have left you such a legacy.

Becky,

I'm so glad you posted this poem! This was fascinating to find. Lila Campbell and Frank Galbraith are my great-grandparents.

I've been trying to piece together a family tree in my spare time over the past few months, but I've had difficulty tracing the Campbell family. Do you by any chance know the names of Dugan Campbell's ancestors?

Thanks!

Annie Harrison

Thumbs up Campbell poem brings great memories!

Becky:

Thanks for posting this poem. These names bring back a lot of great memories.

My Grandmother was Lila and Grandfather Frank lived next door to me from birth until I went to college at 18. Aunt Mary and Uncle Eldon would visit my Grandparents almost every weekend. In between visits, I remember Grandma Lila talking to Aunt Mary on the telephone almost every day.

Uncle Jay and Aunt Vina were always a lot of fun to see also. I didn't know the other brothers and sisters very well, but did hear their names mentioned frequently.

My daughter Annie Harrison is a sophomore at Central Michigan University and was the one who forwarded the site link to me. Annie has begun to research our family tree and has been a wonderful resource for finding things such as this poem posting. My mother Donna Harrison (Lila's daughter) will really enjoy this too.

Thanks once again for making this poem available!

Family

Becky,

My mother gave me this poem many years ago. My grandparents were Jay and Vina Campbell. I remember best Aunt Lila, Uncle Frank, Aunt Mary and Uncle Eldon. They were all such a happy family and reunions were big events. I also remember playing in the hayloft of the barn at Aunt Mary's and taking the cows down to the pasture. My mother, Leadell Campbell, used to spend her summers on the farm when she was little.

Thank you for sharing this poem.
