In 1787 John Carruthers of Howcleugh married Janet Schoolar of Lockerbie. They were my great great great grandparents as far as I can figure out.

Has anyone any information on who Janet Schoolar was?

Schooler

Hi Marhar thanks for you time, I have the information on her husband and Family. Her daughter Janet was my ancestor but What I was wondering was why a name that doesn't sound at all schottish was there. Seems to me that Schoolar would be Schyler and what nationality is that?

Scoular is the more common Scottish spelling of the name!

Schuyler, so far as I know, is Dutch in origin.
