Question

Is the surname Dendy of Scottish origin? I am attempting to research a Wm. Dendy who supposedly came to the United States in mid 1700's to Virginia. I can not find any information before that. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

Some people named Dendy think that the name in Scotland was Dundee. There are no places or even streets named Dendy in Scotland. There are two streets in England named Dendy. I wish you luck. Bob

I searched the 1881 Census for the whole of the UK. for the name Dendy, and found 130 persons of that name. 52 lived in Sussex and 30 in Surrey and 48 were scattered around southern England and Wales. Not one in all of Scotland so the name seems to be English.
