My wife is an Anderson from Dalkeith, and she remembers Sheriffhall as being a nice walk form Dalkeith, and almost halfway to Danderhall (on route A68, from memory). As a miner's daughter she remembers it as a mine and some houses, hardly big enough to call a vilage.
Her brother, James, is a retired coalminer living in Dalkeith, and I suggest you send an email to his son Andrew at andy@isobel85.freeserve.co.uk saying that his Aunt Margaret in New Zealand asks him to ask his father to see whether there are any connections to your Andersons. Ask also for any websites for mining industry/museum in that area.
There isa very interesting small museum in Dalkeith itself, and (again from memory) it has some coal mining items. What is always ofmost interest, of course, tous is theexistence of any papers, minute books etc. There was a Mid and East Lothian Trade Union which built its headquarters at 78 Bonnyrig Road, the Union Villa, in 1903. Before that it held its meetings at the Scientific Hall, Dalkeith.
Best wishes.

yep i should have corrected the spelling on middlestots.

so here is a bit of an update.

middlestots, blackadder and reedy loch are in the same area in edrom, i have also found another sheriff hall which is north of there, (south of berwick) if anyone knows anymore info on that please reply.

what are the current populations of blackadder, and middlestots, and is reedy loch still a town/village?

Balgone is 3.6 miles from North Berwick.
It is south of Berwick Law
It is west of Whitekirk
It is east of Kingston
Driving directions from Nth. Berwick are:

1 - Depart on FORTH STREET, B1346 and go E for 0.23 miles
2 - Turn left onto LAW ROAD, B1347 and go S for 1.7 miles
3 - Turn left and go SE for 1.4 miles
4 - Arrive at your destination and go NE for 0.3 miles

Did you see the map? If not, persevere and try again. It's
worth it.

Enter - "North Berwick" histoical - at your search engine. I used Google and got lots of references. There will be an email address or two at some of the websites referenced, and you'll learn a lot of history of the area by reading what is on the sites.
