Does anyone know of the name McClard? I have been told they are a sept of Clan MacDonald and I have also been told that McClard is a variation of the name MacLeod. Does anyone know? Does anyone know where the McClard's may have come from in Scotland? My 6th great grandfather was Daniel McClard and family legend says he left Scotland one step ahead of the law. It seems there was a slight mis-understanding about some missing cattle. LOL. Do not know when he was born but he died in Prince Edward County, Virginia in 1774. I descend from his son John and from his son Daniel C. McClard and then from Daniel C. McClard's daughter Secily McClard. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello
I see you've posted similar questions in another forum on here - I think I replied to it! Here's a map of Scottish clans in Scotland. As I've said, until you know which clan's sept your ancestor came from.... it's like hunting for a needle in a haystack!!! But then, nobody said genealogy was an easy subject ![]() There are more than one MacDonald clan - which complicates it even further for you..... Until you know the are from which the ancestor immigrated, pinning down a precise allegiance may be almost impossible. Good luck with your research ![]() http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Part...5/scotmap.html |
