If I have it spelled correctly, Does anyone know where Pastely is?

Paisley being so close to Glasgow I guess if asked you could say your from Glasgow. Thats what I had written down as Great-Grandpa's birthplace until I got his death certficate.

When asked by someone I often say I live in Edmonton but I actually live about a half an hour outside the ciy.

I always assume that when there is some indication that a person is from some particular place in Scotland that I shouldn't discount the possibility they are actually from some realtively nearby location.

Also a lot of my famiies moved from the parish of birth the town of Wick for work reasons or spent some time working in Edinburgh or Glasgow before marrying and raising their own families back in the home parish.

I have found death records for people who normally resided in Canisbay, Caithness in Montrose, Angus for instance.

It just means that records for specific family members are not always in the location you think they should be. One shouldn't assume they don't exist but if trying the one location doesn't come up with the results go for a broader search.
