My ancestors fought the English in the Highlands and in the end we got them to listen - later when we crossed to Ireland to kick them outa there the Queen of the English banned our name and took our land.
The rest as they say is history! But OC you know IF you have the blood, it isn't that simple. Large numbers of Scottish families simply ceased to exist in all records but those kept in Gaelic- and some in family records. Among these of note are the Mc Kinsey's, and Mc Kinnon's of the Isles. |

This appears to be a rant more than a query but the point is valid - not all people are in the records available to us either.
Some people did not register their children's births prior to 1855 or they failed to be present(sometimes deliberately) for the census, they weren't members of the Church of Scotland so their records are not on the GROS site for dates prior to 1855, there are gaps in the records for various reasons like damage to them, no minister to write the records and then on top of that there is the spelling which is not standardized until the late 19th century/early 20th century. Also there are mistakes in the records sometimes as well.
