Unhappy

I was born near Inverness, Scotland to Herman Scott and Cynthia Scott. My DOB July 17, 1975, My name...Tina Marie Scott. I was adopted in the United States away from all my family on my fathers side. My mother was 1/2 Cherokee and 1/2 Italian. My father was pure Scot. I also have an older full blooded brother by the same father and mother....his name is Michael Scott. I know that my father was in his 50's when I was born and I know of no other information about my father. Please help. Any additional information would be greatly appreciated.

Hello there!

If you were born in Scotland, then your birth was presumably registered at the General Records Office - and you should be able to trace your father through that birth certificate?

Although I suppose that if your adoptive parents changed your name, it may be more difficult? As there aren't many half Native Americans/half Italians living in Scotland, I assume she can be traced more easily than your dad! Were you adopted in Scotland or the USA? Rules re seeking natural parents are obviously different in the two countries.

Try the GRO site - it is not free, but is not too expensive - and you get a couple of queries for the basic sum charged. Who knows? You may find more information re your Dad... I have to say that although Scott is a fairly common name, I know of absolutely no other Hermans amongst my friends or family - it's a German name in origin, alhthough many Americans have that name. This fact alone may make him easier to trace! The GRO is based in Edinburgh, but all Scottish births, deaths and marriages are registered there.

Good luck with your search

Re your query about your Dad.
I have found a Herman Scott, the only one in the United Kingdom, and been in contact by phone with him. Alas he does not seem to be your dad......But if you care to send me your e mail address and your full postal address I will send it on to him, as somehow you could still be related to him. by the sound of his voice he does not come from Scotland.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Marhar
