Question

ok I'm new to this and I've just downloaded the pedigree chart. However, I'm a little bit stuck on what a couple of the mark boxes mean: SP - Sealed to Parents and SS - Sealed to Spouse, does this mean that I can't get any info from my parents or my spouse?

I'm sorry if I sound a bit thick but we all have to start somewhere I suppose. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Charts

Hi York Scot, I think you will find that S.P. and S.S. are just another way of meaning. S.P. = baptised & S.S. = married to. THis is used by the Latter Day Saints in a lot of their Geneology stuff.
Good luck with your searches, its the start of a long but very enjoyable quest Brandane

The chart references not important

Unless you are a member of the Mormon's ( Latter Day Saints).

It is slightly more complicated than Brandane suggested but it certainly doesn't mean you can'thave access to the records.

One of the reasons the LDS has the largest genealogical library in the world is that ancestors can be brought into the fold so to speak. So it's matter of religion that a child is sealed to his parents and that you are sealed to your spouse. It's purpose is to save all souls of your ancestors.

In practice many genealogy programs charts etc allow you to indicate that the seals have been made. But unless you yourself are a Mormon ignore these. I certainly do but much of my basic information has come from the International Genealogical Index which is a online database free to use by anyone put on line by the LDS. http://www.familysearch.org

If you have a Scottish surname, eg Mc Search, simply asking aroung among the established clan forums will get a better and more honest result- BECAUSE the English Queen Elizabeth 1 banned thousands of family names, and confiscated their lands.

Banning is similar to the Jewish tradition that forbids Jews from even using the words 'Jeshua Bar Joshua' - or as you probably know it, Jesus - BTW this is a mistranslation of the Hebrew 'Ha Zeus' - like 'the Lord' - which was a sort of cuss word at one time among the Jews. It literaly means 'THE Zeus'

Okay it is clear that IrishscOt is ranting

Keep it up and I will edit.

There are valid issues with the Scottish/English battles but this is not the place for them. Clan forums are useful sources as well.

Records can be missing or misleading for a number of reasons not only because the names were banned. And even that you would have to provide a little more proof of.

Not every Scottish name was a Mc one anyway. And don''t tell me we aren't Scottish or of Scottish ancestry.
