I am looking for anything Penman, especially in Scotland and/or related to the clan/family line. So, if you have any info, shout-outs, or anything that you could pass along, I would greatly appreciate it. I can share any genealogical info like names, dates, etc. I go date back to about 1704. Thank you!

I have a David Penman Cairns (b.11 January 1873 Dunfermline Fife)in my family. He is the son of david Cairns and Margaret Mitchell. Not sure if he is related to your Penman's.

Thumbs up

The given name David does seem to run in my family. There are some branches of my tree that disappear, he may be a son of one of my female ancestors. Do you have a Helen, Janet, Sarah, Minta or Agnes Penman in your line?

My David had the middle name of Penman, I'm not sure how the naming of children went, I think they were named after one of their grandmothers maiden name. (something like that) I haven't come across a surname of Penman in my family yet.

Thank you for your response. You're right about the middle name though, it probably was a mother, grandmother, or aunt. I have found that to be true of mine. If it helps in your search, many Penmans are from Dunfermline, Fife. Others may be from Selkirk. I haven't found any in the highlands. Good luck!
