Can anyone give me information on the origin of the name? How did my Irish grandfather Swan get shipped to Scotland when injured during WW1 because of his name?

Lots of Swan's in Scotland but sorry I don't know the origin of the name. Is it possible your grandfather was what's known as Scots-Irish?
