Thumbs up

Hiya, have you tried using the family search website? (www.familysearch.com I think!!!!) either that or the Scotlands People website/Scots Origins would be your best bet. Family Search is free so it might get you started and you can search specific areas, I've foound it a great help in my own research. Good Luck, it is satisfying but can be frustrating searching the family tree!

Fleming, Flemming, Fleeming

What makes you certain that your particular Flemings are from the Highlands?

The spelling is variable over time and includes the variations in the subject header.

Most Flemings are from Lanark with some also from Aberdeen, Ayr, Midlothian, Renfrew, and Stirling. It is a very common name- there are 3535 entries for William Fleming on the IGI. If you are certain yours are "highlanders" concentrate on Aberdeen.

There are some very famous Flemings - one of the Ladies in waiting to Mary Queen of Scots was Mary Fleming. This family had extensive holdings in Lanark.
