My intrest in the Sloss name begins with Robert Sloss and his wife Jane Nimmo, have no idea of bith dates or place of birth, they had at least 2 sons,James who married Helen McCamon/McCammon,James died 26/11/1913,he like his father was a coalminer.James place of death was Crosshouse Ayr,his death certificate was signed by his brother John, who lived at 32 Fore? street Kilmarnock.

Robert Sloss & Janet Nimmo
for lassieinfife
Robert Sloss married Janet Nimmo on the 23rd of April 1886 at Loudon, Ayr the marriage certificate provides no details of Robert's father and gives his mother's name as Margaret This might mean that Robert was born on 21st of April 1864 at Mauchline, Ayr but there's no definite link that I know for certain I've not seen Margaret's death certificate or that of Robert or Janet. There was a family consisting of Robert & Jane (both aged 27) along with two sons (James & John) and a daughter Jane in the 1891 census in Kilmaurs. Again I don't know if that's the right family but the age of the father is right and it's not a great leap from Janet to Jane. |
