I am not a family member but found this site whilst searching for James Sloss. The James Sloss in which I am interested was born in Sctland in 1857 and was a police officer in my town, Kenilworth, for a few years either side of 1890. He was something of a local character and over time I could supply a number of stories about him during his time here. He was once described as the biggest man in Warwickshire. He will have a large slice of his life written up in my next, fourth, book about kenilworth and would like to add details of his later life and death if anyone can help me.
Hope this is of interest. |

James Sloss 1857

I might be able to help. I presume from your focus on later data indicates that you've hit a brick wall in some way (possibly James left Kenilworth). I can't reply off the board as you (like myself) have disabled the e-mail reply function. Are you the author of Kenilworth's engineering age? If so would you rather I contact you via your publisher (odibourne press)? Innes |

Thanks to keeplooking for your reply. My e-mail is now activated and yes Engineering Age is one of mine.
PC Sloss was in Kenilworth by 1888 and left in 1894 to keep order in a nearby village. He was still in Warwickshire in the 1901 census and that is where I loose track of him. His wife was Mary who was 8 years his senior. Any details as to his origins or demise will be greatly appreciated. |

I came across this article in a Highland newspaper and it mentions this man called Tom Sloss who seems to be an entertainer.

Robert James Sloss
Hi
I am currently trying to source my family roots as I think my Sloss family line may have come from Scotland. The earliest record i can source at the moment is Robert James Sloss who died in 1906. So far as I am aware he lived in Ireland most of his life as a farmer near Cookstown, Northern Ireland. The name Robert James Sloss has a strong family tradition as several members of the family have been named after this man since, therefore I imagine the name goes far back. A stab in the dark maybe but its worth a try. Thanks, Geoff |
