I am looking for information on the name Hamilton. Well, I'm sure there are about 50 million in Scotland, but I think my great-great grandmothe was Elizabeth Hamilton, from Scotland who married a man from Ireland. I am guessing they were married in Scotland, so I'm wondering if there may be any area in Scotland where Hamiltons abound. Kind of like McGonigles in Donegal ( the man she married). Thanks,Lil4

If they were married in Scotland, and you have a rough date (the exact date would be better, of course!) - then you should be able to find them through New Register House's records. Not having the town might be a little more problematic. The service is not free, but if you marshall your questions before you go online, then you should get value for money by being able to make more than one query for the same sum of money. Ahhh yes, we Scots know thrifty!
