George Mitchell

I am trying to find the birth of my g-grandfather George Mitchell. I know he lived most of his life in the Invergordon area, Saltburn to be specific. On his marriage certificate to Annie Munro in 1892, he puts his age as 22, making him born around 1870. On this cert, his mother is listed as Christina Ross & no father is mentioned. I found Christina in the 1881 census married Donald Ross with an 11yr old boarder George Mitchell.
There is a George Mitchell born in Aberdeen in 1870 but I don't believe this is "my george" as different parents are listed.
Family stories hint that George's dad possibly came from the Newcastle area in England, but nothing for sure.
I live in rural Australia so rely on the internet to help me with my research.
Where do I go from here?? Can anybody help??

http://www.familysearch.org 9 best for earlier dates and is free or http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk can help if you haven't already tried them

Since this is after 1855 it should be recorded in the statuatory registers so I would try the second site although it is not a free site.
