Hmm not much to go on

There are 67 David Muir's in various parts of Scotland for instance who were born 1828 - 1832 on the IGI. Many birth are not recorded in the OPR'S (especially those after 1843 when the Free Church was formed) which form the basis for much of the IGI.

Mirian is an unusual name but first names in most families in Scotland followed a traditional naming pattern. There are no Mirian Muir's on the IGI with father named David.

Any ideas about what part?? of Scotland your David Muir might have been from. Was Mirian born in the US or ??

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb..../CountyAyr.htm

this is the best way to access the extracted records of the IGI but since you don't know which parish it will be a tedious job

you will have to check every C file of the appropriate years

keep in mind also that not all births are recorded and that sometime the stated years a particular C file really covers is wrong and may contain more records than what is listed

Muir is a fairly common name in Ayr.
You could also try the http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk site but there is a charge to view records there. I use the IGI to get names and then verify on Scotlandspeople.
