Question

My gggps were John Dunlop, b1811 Greenock, and Mary Ann Nisbet, b about 1817, married 22 May 1834 in St Cuthbert's, Edinburgh.
Their son, my ggp David Nisbet Dunlop, married Marion Reid King, and they had about seven children in New Zealand.
David's death certificate (Christchurch NZ 1876) shows them marrying in London; Marion's death certificate (Melbourne Australia 1892) has them marrying in Dunedin, NZ.
Both death certificates show them born in Edinburgh.
Children were Margaretta McWilliam b1864, David John b1865, John Charles b1867, Charles Alexander b1868, Alexander McWilliam b1871, Alfred Wallace b1875, plus one more male.
I cannot find any record of David or Marion's birth, their emigration to NZ, about 1862, nor of their marriage, about 1863.
Any help gratefully received.

Hello, there!

I'm afraid I have no personal knowledge of your ancestors... but St Cuthbert's Church is still going strong - it's on Lothian Road, behind the Castle... Here's the URL to their website - they have a section on genealogical research, perhaps they can help you verify birth certs for your ggp - as there appears to be some uncetainty about where he actually got married....

Good luck with you research.

Thanks Polwarth.
I've viewed details of gggps marriage, they were staying at 22 Carnegie Street, and Mary Ann's father was David Nisbet, Writer.
From there, the trail of the ggps is cold until New Zealand.
