Thumbs up

Can anyone help? I have come to a standstill with my family tree. My family (going backwards from me) come from Fife, Clackmannan and Inveresk. I am trying to find the marriage of John Hunter (the elder) to Marion Young circa 1640 in I think Inveresk, as that is where the children were born. So far I have been unlucky, including the Old Parish Registers, as a last hope I remembered a story that runs in the family about a very old connection to the Hunters of Bute. Now I do know that some Hunters from Hunterston (Ayrshire) sought protection from the Stuarts/Stewarts of Bute during the Viking wars. So just maybe there is a connection with Bute. Is there someone out there with the information I need, or can tell me where to get it? I hope so. Thank you .

I've just recently found a connection to Hunters in my family. The name was William Hunter birth date unknown but I have his marriage date as July 11 1824 to a Jean(Jane)Hall.I haven't gone back any further, but would this be the same family? They had a son Robert Hunter. I believe they came from the Blantyre/Glasgow area.

Thanks for replying to my posting, but I am afraid it is bad news for both of us. I have my family tree in front of me as I write and there is no reference to a Jean (Jane)Hall. I wish you good fortune in your research.

So I assuming you have looked at all the websites related to Bute for further clues?

Wink

Just a short note to macsealgair - you most likely know this anyway.
Inveresk is a small village, part of Musselburgh, about 7 miles east of Edinburgh.
What is important to note is that Inveresk is the name of the PARISH for that area, so I wonder whether the children were born in the village of Inveresk or the parish of Inveresk? This may give you some alternative thought as to search(?).
