Looking for any information on Margaret Stewart born about 1736.
Only information I have is that she married John Kellas on 22.02.1756. Margaret was from the parish of Mortlach and John from the parish of Cabrach. Their children were all born in Torniechelt, Cabrach:- Hugh 1758, Isabell 1760, Alexander 1762, Anna 1765, Christian 1767 and Rachel 1771. Margaret died in Torniechelt, Cabrach on 19.01.1785. |

Stewart and Stuart
I think the three main clans were Stuart of Bute, Stewart of Appin and Stewart of Atholl all actually related from far back in history.
Mary Queen of Scots was the last "Stewart" monarch she married Henry Stuart, Lord Darnley who was actually a relation and from then on the monarchs were "Stuart". |

mary stuart
Sorry I thought Mary Stewart changed her name to Stuart while she was in France.
She wrote her name as Stuart (which is the french spelling) well before she married Darnley???? Please correct me if I am wrong. cheers |

Stewart or Stuart , it matters little .
In reality they are all FitzAlans by way of being stewards ![]() Mary's brothers were Robert Stewart, 1st Earl of Orkney and James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray. All three of them were born into the House of Stewart . Darnley's father was Matthew Stewart, 4th Earl of Lennox , also of the House of Stewart . So the French spelling was merely an affectation Last edited by Duthill; 12th July 2011 at 07:18. |
