I suspected the contact information may be out of date since I don't think the particular list I got it from was recently updated.

I like the Electric Scotland site but I can't remember if I got the link to the list from there or Cyndislist.

And any good geneaologist will tell you that only relying on internet data is wrong wrong wrong. You still have to get the primary sources and be able to back up any information you are incorporating in your family tree. But it does make finding where to look for the primary sources much easier for those outside of the country of interest.

I guess I am glad my ancestors weren't Thompson/Thomson's either lol. I just have to deal with some illegitimate Sutherlands?? Family "story" is a noble Sutherland was rather free with his genes throughout the entire country

Oh yes what part of Scotland again Polwarth?

My great grandfather was James Sutherland. I think he was born in Caithness but can't prove it yet. He spent most of his adult life in Edinburgh except for a brief time in the US in Kansas. Most of my Scottish ancestors were from Caithness.

Sutherlands

Mine were from Sutherland. Only came south to Edinburgh in about 1902 - so we know our family history very well.

Hope you find yours.... I know how difficult it can be. That's the beauty of still living in your native country - many of us have been able to 'keep track' of the family for many generations back! My Dad's family can be traced just by going into the graveyard where he lived as a boy.... earlier generations are all buried in the same place (well, except for those killed in foreign wars).
