Sauteed oatmeal? I think that's what we call 'skirlie'. Slice loads of onions quite thin, saute in loads of butter, then add as much oats as you need to soak the butter all up, keep frying it till the butter is absorbed in the oats, and all heated through, then serve! Never had it with collops of beef, but it's good with any meat or as a stuffing.

((Aww hell, Babz... i just broke my New Years resolution!))

knew you could not last long Porty...lol

Skirlie must be what you are talking about here !!

I have known it to be cooked in lard too but that way it is not very nice !!

Here is one recipe for you

1 Onion
Fine Oatmeal
Butter

Slice the onion and chop.

Melt some butter in a frying pan then add the onion and fry gently
until browned.

Add some oatmeal, just enough to absorb the fat, it is best to do this
in small amounts to ensure that you have got it right.

Stir well.

We used to have it with mince and tatties when I was at home !!

I know some who have it on buttered toast !!

Your first couple of attempts may not be right as it will depend on
how much butter is used.

But persevere it is well worth getting it right !!

It's gorgeous on toast, and its also brill made with pinhead oats rather than fine, as it makes it more chewy and "nutty".
