The same ol', same ol' gets totally boring. I don't know where you're writing from, Jin, but some ideas to go along with the excellent ones I've read here, would be to maybe take some instant oatmeal packets of varying flavors to work, if you have a microwave. Then, just heat water up in the microwave, mix, and stir, and you've got a great lunch. Fresh fruit or veggies with some kind of dip is always good. Do you like trail mix? That can be chock-full of nutrition with peanuts and various kinds of dried fruits, as well as a big energy-booster for the rest of the day.

Unfortunately Suzy, j, (Janet) no longer comes here.

I like the trail mix and the fruit and dip idea but I can't stand those prepackaged oatmeal envelopes! They just taste all wrong and are full of sugar and artificial flavorings, just not my style! LOL You can also get those trail mix bars with good things in them; cranberries, almonds, sweetened with honey. They are pretty good.

I agree, Kathy, that they do tend to be full of sugar and artificial things; however, they're quick! When you said they taste all wrong, though, what did you mean by that? Wrong as opposed to what, if I might ask? There's a store in College Place that I recently found sells Scottish oatmeal and, in time, I'd like to try it. However, with my schedule being what it is, and having just been in a fender-bender today (got rear-ended while waiting for someone in front of me to make a left turn), don't think I'll be making anything homemade for a few days!

Oh Suzie! I'm glad you are all right.

I've recently gotten lucky.... at my new job there is a full kitchen available for my use! Though i'm told it doesn't happen often, five of us ate together yesterday. Today i'm taking soup to heat up as the place is a bit cold and soup will hit the spot nicely. At my last place we didn't even have a microwave or anywhere to sit and eat.

Suzy, by all wrong I guess I meant that they don't taste like they do if you make them from scratch; you can make oatmeal and add flavorings, fruit, sweetners etc. . . and they taste like oatmeal with a flavor or someting added in it, when I tried the packaged kind they just tasted sweet and artificial. Not to my taste.

By College Place, do you mean in Washington? What store? Occasionally I get over to Walla Walla, it would be cool to pick up some of the 'real thing' sometime! We can't get it here, but then we don't have much here! lol

Hope you are ok after your fender bender, those are awful. Have some comfort food, it'll help!

A simple haggis recipe

Pan Haggis

1 lb Liver
2 cups Stock or Water
3Medium Onions
8 oz Suet
2 cups Medium Oatmeal (not flakes)
Salt and Pepper
Boil the Liver in the stock for 30 to 40 minutes, retain the liquid for later, cool and grate the Liver. Parboil the Onions and chopfinely. Mince the suet if it is in a block.
Put the Oatmeal in to a thick based frying pan (Skillet) and hold over heat stirring all the time till the oatmeal is browned. Add the liver, onions and suet and seasoning, moisten with the liquid the liver was boiled in
Turn this mixture into a greased pudding dish and cover. Steam it for 2 to 3 hours and serve with mashed potatoes and Rutebaga (Swede)
P.S. British cup 10 ounces ....American cup 8 ounces

Enjoy Marhar
