Made the bran scones I could have sold them to a builder Shall try again perhaps I baked them too long and I shall add a little sugar next time .The dog and the chickens thought they were great. Jackie

Red face Heavy scones

Heavy scones can be caused by
1 Not enough raising agent
2 Not enough liquid
3 Too much heavy handling
4 The scones were kept waiting to go into the oven
5 The temperature of the oven was too low- or the scones were put too low in the oven.
Bran soaks up more liquid than normal flour. will try to find another recipe for you to try.

scones

don't over knead then, also brush tops with milk or cream before baking, helps keep them moist

Yahoo search and enter Bran Scones
you will get 1090 pages of scone recipes
surely one of them will fit the bill.
