Thumbs up

This is for the person who was looking for recipes using Mars bars. My mom is famous with family and friends for this one and gets asked to make this for all our family parties and functions, is always a hit. Hope you and yours enjoy it.

MARS BARS CAKE:

2 oz margarine
2 large Mars Bars
2 tbsps corn syrup

Melt these together in a large saucepan and then remove from heat - then add 6 cups rice krispies. Fill a 9x13" baking pan - top with softened milk chocolate and smooth over.
Cut into squares and refrigerate to harden chocolate topping. Can be also used in square pans - will fill a couple - cover with foil and can be kept in freezer for several weeks - handy to make these ahead of time for the holidays. Take out of freezer or fridge well ahead of time to thaw or come to room temperature. ENJOY!

This Sounds nice, but where is the cake?
Did your mother make this recipe in Britain? If so, where did she see "corn Syrup" because i have seen it in lots of Ameirican recipes but have never seen it in a shop here.

Look in the supermarket for Karo syrup. Usually found along with maple syrups and such.
I imagine the "cake" reference is to anything made in a cake pan - at least that's what my mom says

Bruce are you talking about Scotland or NorthAmerica? I live in Scotland and the only syrup you can get in my local supermarkets is Lyles golden syrup, but maybe that can be used instead of the corn syrup? It is sugar syrup, pale amber in colour.

I'm sorry, Senga - I must have misunderstood your post. I thought you were in America too. Karo is a common brand of corn syrup over here that's used in all sorts of things. My mom and gram used it a lot, in fact. I really don't know about the syrup you mentioned.

Anyway - new on the forum and while poking around saw this group on food, and who doesn't love food! Also loving to cook - took a look around here. Lots of recipees put aside for my wife and I to try out.

Senga - sorry about the error on the corn syrup. Mom says it is Lyles syrup you use. Hope you try the recipe - she did not make it in Britain - it was a recipe she got here in Canada.
