Question

Can anyone out there help?

There are two in my family that do not like Christmas Puddings and I want any suggestions for something different for them on christmas day, apart from the usual apple pie or trifle.

Nothing to time consuming as time is short.

Thanks in advance

hi Elly-may,

Not being a big fan of Christmas Pudding either, I used to get a big chocolate gateau instead (all to me wee self aswell, I used to make a right old mess on my Mothers best tablecloth!)

Failing that you could try some cheesecake or meringue, they always go down well.(not very traditional ideas, sorry!!)

I've started to drool at the thought.....MMMMMM...nice!!

Lightbulb Clootie dumpling

When I was a boy my mother always made clootie dumpling for Christmas Day dessert. It's very traditional and very Scottish, but I've no idea what the recipe would be. I'll have a dig around on the internet and see if I can find it. A cloot is a cloth and the dumpling is made by wrapping all the ingredients in a cloth (I think my mother used a pillow case) and boiling or steaming the whole thing for some time. If I find a recipe, I'll report back.

Thumbs up Clootie dumpling

The recipe at http://www.scotweb.co.uk/kitchen/BAK/clootie.html sounds about right! The whole website looks pretty good, really!

Malteser thanks for your suggestions the meringue sounds the best one to do.

Neil I love clootie dumpling but unfortunately the two others do not like the fruit in it(don't know what they are missing).

I did think of doing a Scotch Trifle but I would want some of it too.

By the way Neil you are missed in chat try to get back one day and we can talk more about the tunnels from the castle.

Wink Christmas Dessert

Here in the States we always have Pumpkin and/or Mince Meat pie with Whipped cream or sometmes ice cream on the pie. I am planning to take a Christmas pudding and break with tired tradition! Any one have a good hard sauce recipe? Thanks
