Deep Fried.

Have the Scots manage to deep fry ice cream? If so I'd like the recipe.
:d Love the NZman

I'm afraid not. Why don't you try it for yourself and let us know how you get on? Remember to make sure that the fat is VERY hot, of course.

Exclamation deep fried ice cream

I had this one time in a Mexican restaurant...pretty good, but I have no idea how they did it.

Fried Goodies

I've also had fried ice cream in Mexican restaurants, but never in Scotland. I actually had the recipe at one time. Similar idea to baked Alaska, which insulates the ice cream with beaten egg whites. The ice cream is kept cold inside a layer of batter, and the frying time is so quick, at such a high temperature, that the ice cream does not have a chance to melt. It's fabulous! By the way, please see my post about fried mars bars in "What's happening in Scotland"
discussion.

Unhappy

I did catch your note about deep fried MarsBars. Is that a UK thing? I've never heard about them here in the US. Really sounds different. I don't care a lot for MarsBars.

As far as I understand, U.K. Mars Bars are VERY different from the bars of the same name in the U.S., and also not quite the same as those in Canada. I can't remember what the differences are. As for the deep frying, the first person here does not yet appear to have come back with the results of her/his culinary experiments.

But Baked Alaska is very good - a while since I've bothered to make it though.

Hmm, there's an idea. Fairly easy to do, but friends come along and get impressed. Yes, I ought to bear that in mind.

Happy happy thought.

Lightbulb Ice Cream

Hi there. I have had deep fried icecream twice in Ontario Canada. In two different places. It seemed about the same as the deep fried mars bar offered earlier. the batter was about an inch deep but I had heard that the ice cream had to be frozen very very hard makes scence I guess. I think it is a spin on the old "baked Alaska" thing just quicker and like most things...timeing is everything. It was served with whipcream and chocolate sauce. It was sinful but I didn't care!!!!
