I'm going to the in-laws Sunday for Thanksgiving dinner. I've been elected to bring the dessert. I've made the tradional pumpkin pie but does anyone have a good/easy dessert I can whip up and impress them. I don't want them to think I can cook but something different would be good.

Ta! Da! Here I come to the rescue with a provocative dessert I've been baking for a LONG time. As a chef, I have hundreds of cookbooks, but this is one of my favorite desserts.
TIRAMISU: (Ti-ram-i-soo) 6 Egg yolks 1 1/4 cups sugar 1 1/4 mascarpone cheese* 1 3/4 cups whipping cream 3/4 cups water 2 teaspoons instant coffee granules 1 1/2 tablespoons brandy 2 (3-ounce) packages ladyfingers GARNISHES: whipped cream and grated unsweetened chocolate Combine egg yolks and sugar in top of double boiler; beat at medium speed of an electric mixer until thick and lemon-coloured. Bring water to a boil; reduce heat to low, and cook 8 to 10 minutes or until mixture reaches 160 degrees Fahrenheit, stirring constantly. Remove from heat Add marscapone, and beat until smooth. Beat whipping cream in a medium bowl until soft peaks form; fold into cheese mixture. Combine water, coffee granules, ad brandy; brush on cut side if ladyfingers. Line sides of bottom of a trifle bowl or 3-quart souffle dish with 36 ladyfingers; pour in half of filling. Layer remaining ladyfingers on top; cover with remaining filling. Garnish, if desired; cover and chill 8 hours. Yield: 10-12 servings. * NOTE: As a substitute for mascarpone cheese, combine 2 (8-ounce) packages of cream cheese, 1/3 cup of sour cream, and 1/4 cup whipping cream; beat well. Use 1 1/4 cups mixture for recipe, reserving reminder for other uses. Hope that helps. ------------------ J. Brad Eastridge |

Just a comment on the notes I read about a Thanksgiving Day dessert. Couldn't understand how the answer came too late for Jane.
Our Thanksgiving Day (US) comes along more than a month after Jane's Thanksgiving Day. She's from Canada. |
