Question

Yes, who is a regular consumer of the BRU, our second national drink ? Last I heard, we were the only country in the world that did not have Coke as the top-selling soft drink thanks to this orange nectar made in Scotland from girders, greatest hangover cure of all time (sorely missed in Canada for that reason).
Check out http://www.irn-bru.co.uk if you haven't a clue about what I'm saying.
Opinions?

Peru is the other country. Inca Cola outsells Coca-Cola there. Any indigenous soft drink that outsells the Nectar of Imperialism gets my vote. Last time I was in Scotland, the Irn Bru ad campaigns were quite good, very creative.

However, I'll probably sit quietly in the corner and drink water. Unless, of course, I'm drinking ginger beer, Guinness, or whisky.

Imagine my surprise when I was in Glasgow and a friend offered me a ginger. I got all excited, thinking I was going to get some ginger beer, and I got... (drum roll, please) Diet Pepsi! Not even Irn Bru! I'd been warned that being offered "a ginger" in Glasgow might entail me getting the soft drink du jour, but I thought he knew I loved ginger beer. Imbiber beware!

Yes, 'ginger' in Glasgow just means a fizzy soft drink. Be grateful you never experienced ginger 'wine' at Hogmanay. Ginger essence + water + sugar boiled togather and bottled. The stuff could burn a hole in armour plating and wasn't even alcoholic. This is not to be confused with the alcoholic wines like Crabbie's Green Ginger and the like, other component of the whisky Mac.
Good to hear that together, Scotland and Peru can fight the coca cola company successfully.

Irn Bru is currently giving the big 2 colas a run for their money in moscow also.

check out my homage to Mr Barr and his wonderful beverage in what was the poetry section - I think it's literature and art now-
it's called Amber Nectar

and as far as telling other people what Irn-Bru is like, I hate to say it but the Irn-Bru website is pants - it's more full of wierd and wackyness for regular consumers than an explanation as to why it's so good.

do a net search for Irn Bru and find one of the fan-sites instead, like the "Church of Irn Bru" for which I've forgotten the address.
