So, I'm curious. How many here in the forums have tried a good broad sample of Scotch whiskies? Blends or Single Malts? Islays, Lowlands or Speysides?
Also, if anybody knows of a place in Canada that I could order some Springbank Single Malt from, I'd be eternally grateful. It's my local brand and I can't get it in Newfoundland, that's for sure.
In general - talk about whisky.

Hi there

I will try to get Gamble in here. He belongs to a whisky appreciation group and probably would love to talk with you.

And welcome to Scotland.com

Neil,

It may be just for alkies, but count me in! I am a big time lover of the single malt.
I love Springbank! Lovely, smooth, delicious! I have no idea where to get it Canada, but i have seen it in NYC, Minneapolis, and Portland, OR, so it is fairly widely available here in the States. I can't imagine it would be that hard to find up your way. If nothing else, there must be a way to have it shipped to Canada.
I also love the Macallan 18 and 25s (hell, I'd settle for the 12!) Another favorite is Balvenie. Never cared for Cardhu or Glenlivet, don't know why. Glenmorangie is nice.
Can't think right now for more.
Interesting sidebar: There is a section on the site www.firstfoot.u-net.com all about which whiskies are owned by foreign interests and which are owned by Scots. The page is called "Who owns Scotland?"

My favourites are the Islay malts, particularly Bunnahabhainn (might have too many "n's" in there!)
I've just got back from a week on Islay, where we visited the very distillery mentioned above, and also the Bowmore.

Have you guys ever tried Islay Mist? It's a blended whisky but it is a blend of several different Islay malts and it is excellent! Havent seen it for years, though... do they still make it?

Cheers for the replies. It is good to know that Springbank and the fine burgh of Campbeltown have a strong presence in the US. It's a historical presence, too. That Kintyre town produced much of the illegal Scotch that got to the US during prohibition!
Islay whiskies are particularly close to my heart too (that island just a couple of hours away by ferry from my village), but the important question is , have you tried Laphroaig? The rest all go down easy compared to that fella.
The new Isle of Arran Single Malt is now available too (other side of Kintyre), so why not rush out and try that?
Shipping from Scotland is pricey and it costs a lot more back there too (most expensive place in world to butwhiskyIS Scotland). I am in the hunt for an online Canadian supplier - certainly no suppliers of my favourite in NF.
Thanks for the replies!
