Stovies my arse, Panackelty's the proper name.

The best food ever is what me maw used to mak us years agan as a bairn;

A freshly baked stotty cake, and while it's still warm smother the inside with homemade peaspuddin, then put in thickly carved ham, still sizzlin out the oven. Lush. North east as it gets.

"Panackelty" sounds like a good word to have. Any interesting story about the word's derivation there, or is it just one of those that sort of *sounded* good to whoever named it? Ha, at least I've met your stotty cake before (and had to take some from Geodieland down to London for my then flatmate).

No, it's not: it's from the south-east, you daft geographically-challenged person!

The name might be *******isation of 'Pan Haggerty' according to a wearside forum, oh aye, i'm nee Geordie either I'm a Mackem.

Another good north-east (or sooth-eass if ye prefer) is mash tattie and beetroot.

Thanks, but I think I will skip the mashed tatties and beetroot one. Beetroot is entirely the work of the devil.
