When I was wee, my Dad chased a guillemot in the boat until it was completely knackered. Then he got it into the boat, but he only wanted to show me - he didn't wring its neck for the pot ! Later, with its breath back, he put it back in the sea. He was always catching wee birds to show us, like razor-bills, young eider ducks and shell ducks etc and putting them back afterwards in the bosom of their families !

He did much the same with young rabbits (but he didn't put them back in the sea !)
