Yorkshire Puddings

I have been asked what they are so here is a recipe...I have made the ingredients US measures

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

1 cup of flour
2 eggs
1 cup of milk and water mixed
Salt/Pepper

Put the flour & seasoning into a bowl.

Make a well in the centre and add the eggs.

Add half of the liquid, a little at a time, and beat
well until smooth.

Add rest of the liquid and beat

Leave to stand a while before cooking, I leave mine a couple of hours in the fridge.

Beat again before putting in the pans to get more air into the mixture.

Pre-heat oven to about 450.

Put a small amount of oil, in shallow pan, approx. 9" x 13", or individual pans and place in the oven till hot.

You can also pour the batter into muffin pans and cook for about 20-25 mins.

Finished product will be puffy and brown on the high parts.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Mashed Potatoes

Boil some potatoes and then mash them..you can add butter/margarine and milk to make them smooth !!

Another thing you can add if you like something different is mashed swede...I love it !!

That is Yorkshire pudding Babz? Really? It is flour, eggs, and milk and really plain stuff? Hmmm. I don't know but for some reason I thought it was something really, really complicated. Like plums and grapes and nuts and spices and fruit and some complex recipe or something. Wow, I learn something new everyday. Thanks for telling me what it was. What for me might be simple others see as complicated...I guess it is all a matter of what one is used to. Yorkshire pudding is simple. I did not know that.

It is so easy to make, some even use food mixers to do it !!

I suppose its what you eat it with that matters, I often add sliced onion or mushrooms to the batter mix.

It gives me variety.

My mother in law(a true yorkshire woman) would always have her Yorkshire puddings before her
Sunday Lunch with gravy but most people have them with their lunch nowadays.

If you add sausages to the batter mixture its called...'Toad in the Hole'

You can also eat them cold with jam or syrup !!

Hello, all. It's been a while since I've been to the forum, and it sounds like everyone is still keeping busy. That's cool.

Every New Year's Day when growing up, Daddy would always make prime rib with Yorkshire pudding. I'm not sure what ingredients he used, but I do know he always used meat drippings as part of them. Ohhhhhh, they were a little bit of heaven on earth, hot or cold. Hot was wonderful, though, with melted butter on it. It's still one of my favorite foods.
