Great restaurant menus....
A friend of mine just took me on a virtual vacation, and i came across this at the Sutherlands Restaurant in Glasgow.... 973 Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow West End G3 7TQTel No +44 (0) 141 357 4711 http://www.argyllhotelglasgow.co.uk/...lands_menu.htm FINE SCOTTISH PRODUCE COOKED IN IMAGINATIVE AND TRADITIONAL WAYS. A sample of what you might expect! Cullen Skink A rich soup made with flakes of smoked Finan haddock, leek, potato, and thick double cream. Sauted Breast of Woodpigeon Cooked in summer fruit berries, red wine and fresh seasonal herbs. Steamed Oban Mussels Lightly cooked west coast grown mussels in white wine, garlic, herbs and double cream Pan Fried Aberdeen Angus Sirloin of Beef Beautifully cooked to your preferred degree, served with a rich Balmoral sauce of tomato, shallots and fresh wild mushrooms. YOU CAN dress a menu up to the hilt with profound cooking terminology and fancy words, but as the old saying goes "the proof is in the pudding" and i'd be very surprised if a place like the 3 * Sutherland even managed to make it into the EatScotland quality assurance scheme never mind achieve 3 Michelin * status. Still, it sure is making me hungry just looking at the menu.
Some of the best: Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles Menu Dégustation Greywalls The Sorn Inn Gamba Boath House Abstract Andrew Fairlie at Gleneagles à la carte You can't go wrong with any place listed on the Taste of Scotland guide. I would however avoid Heston Blumenthal's rather creative restaurant in England at all costs. It serves up snail porridge and smoked bacon and egg ice cream amongst other things. I've eaten at Blumenthal's place. I enjoyed SOME of the items I'd ordered... but not all.
![]() Other places well worth a visit Three Chimneys, Isle of Skye Claire MacDonald's Kinloch Lodge Creelers, Edinburgh (for fish) Malcolm Duck's new(ish) place at Aberlady Duck at Malmaison Callender Meadows in Callender The Roman Fort in Callender |
