Red face Cookbooks..

Hiya Ladies..

Now I've come to you guys in the past for help..lol.. but I need it now more then ever..

I'm here living in Scotland, as you might have known.. and I wasn't like a great cook back home in the states, but I at least got on.. but I had Many receipts, books, sheets from women passed down, etc. but I have to say, I've nothing to go off of here... I've been getting by for the most part these past few weeks with easy things, pasta, meats, but nothing fancy, and certainly nothing Scottish, or if you will, more traditional to a dish you would have here. Meat pies are a favourite and so many things that I am familiar with off of a restaurant menu.. so I know what type of dishes I would like to learn. However in saying that... deserts too.. lol.. really want to learn them, as I'm tired of baking the "in the box" brownies, etc.. you know.

Wiz makes the stir fry's.. lol.. and I've managed to learn exactly how he likes his Fry Up's on Sunday's.. woohooo.. but really that's easy right.. so what I was hoping for..

Maybe there is a cookbook some of you can suggest for me to order, or go buy. Everytime I go to the bookstore I look for receipts that I'm family with.. Scotch Broth, or Leeky soup or the Mince and Tatties.. which btw I have never found in a cookbook..

I don't have a printer here at the moment to print online receipts and I was really trying to build a receipt book here so I can just open it up and start doing my thing..

I'm desperate.. any suggestions ??? pwease

Can I suggest 'Scottish cookery' by Catherine Brown - easy to follow and foolproof recipes

Any book by Sue Lawrence (for a modern 'take' on traditional foods)

Any by Nick Nairn - good Scots food, cooked in season and from locally sourced ingredients

For posh nosh - any book by Lady Claire MacDonald.

Hope you find them interesting. I love to cook and have been on lots of cookery courses around the world...

I'd also invest in a set of kitchen scales. We bake/cook according to weight - and don't use 'cup' as a measurement. All the books are written in either lb and ounces or in grammes and kilos!!!

Hiya WB

If you have a National Trust property near you, go into the shop and look at the 'Favourite' cookbooks,
they have many of them and they are not a bad price !!

I have added some of their recipes here with variations...lol

I got to agree with the little 'favourites' books, they are easy and interesting. I got about 6 different kinds on various trips and use them a lot. And for 99p you can't go wrong!

Welcome back Wee! It's nice to see you again! Hope you guys are doing fine!
