I've found a pretty good substitute for kung pao, though... it's called 'toban jhan' (also sometimes called 'toban chilli bean paste/sauce') and it is killer! i buy it in Chinese markets and online.

I tell ya, it's a cold day here today, and something spicy would be nice! I wouldn't mind ordering a Chinese or Indian meal.

Mo Hotter Mo Better

Spending a combined total of 24 years between El Paso Texas & Phoenix area hot and spicey is just a part of the day!At xmas every year I make jars of salsa to give out.For fun I buy blue mex chips or make homemade ones from tortilla strips deep fried.I have to make 2 kinds of salsa. One I call 'weenie' salsa for the wimps lol and the other will knock your eyebrows off PLUS the guys next to you when you breath on him!
Onion, peppers and garlic are soooooooo good at keeping you healthy.Tastey way to beat germs!

FUNNY you should mention that. We threw something similar for some friends of ours a few years back for our new housewarming party. We had all sorts of spicy bubbling potions and hot sauces from around the world. Great fun. We brought out one Mad Dog sauce in particular which was way up in the scoville ratings and gave everyone a drop. After about 2mins, everyone was lined up outside the house eating snow. Hilarious. Have a go if you think your hard enough.

if you want to blow your arse off, eat an indian chicken tikka madras.
I got one from little india in shawlands and it was awesome, however the next day I had to take the day off work, and later when i was walking in queens park with my friends I had to run into a bush otherwise I would have blown a hole in my trousers.

........... it was worth it.

mexican food is for amatuars

to me, madras is for amateurs... if i want a really painfully hot curry, i go for a PHALL!!
But i normally stick to a madras just because they use a lot of cumin in those, and that's my favourite spice.
