'cute' is a patronising word, don't you think? A bit like 'quaint' or 'sweet'.

[i]WE ARE TALKING ABOUT SOUP!!!!

And Actually no I don't think the word CUTE is patronising, and if you just think about it for a moment "Cock a Leaky" lol.. it is funny.. at least it is to me..

My goodness what is wrong? I made a joke about the name of a Scottish Soup.. have I really offended? I fail to see the How in all this..

There was a time when joking about was all that went on here at Scotland.com.. Now it seems I canni even poke fun at a soup..

Please don't SHOUT.

Well, let's just reverse that for a minute, shall we?

How about me splitting my sides at 'grits', or 'loose meat'? See what I mean?

In another forum you were getting aerated about people calling you a 'Yank' - and I fully understand WHY - it is calling you something that you think is a derogatory term (although it is NOT thought that by most UK people). So, permit a Scot to find your idea that a dish of ours has a funny name rather unfunny.

Wouldn't do if we all found the same things funny, now would it?

Unfortunately, I think this poster is thinking of leak rather than leek and of course they are completely different meanings. I don't care how they sound, they are not the same. And, I believe, they are taking cock to mean something other than a chicken which to me is a 'fowl' way to picture this tasty soup.

As for the Yank thing, I was born in the South to a Northern Dad and a California Mom and I live in the West. Call me what you will just don't call me late for Cock a Leeky soup for dinner!

BTW Pol, grits, while tasty, are a bit laughable! LOL Espically if you do happen to be a real Yank!!!!!

[i]Gals..

My goodness.. I am joking with you all here..

I am referring to it in a Sexual (not such a funny matter) lmao.. joke.. How can you not see what I am saying? No wait, you do see it.. so why do you think I am making fun of a Scottish Soup then, and being degrotary?

Polwarth.. You can split your sides about all you wish. I wouldn't take offense to any of it.. at all.. lol.. I don't eat grits.. loose meat? lol.. so I assume you mean chopped meat? who knows.. its food.. its not serious..

And, My post about someone calling me a Yank is totally different and really has no business being compared here in the cusine forum, and nevertheless, compared to a joke about a Leaking "Co@k"{.. lmao..

And I was not shouting.. I put it in caps because I am really finding this unbelievable..

Kathyv.. I am sure the soup is tasty, Never had it.. and I know what you meant by Leek as the vegatable.. and Cock as a Chicken..

I really was making a joke.. It is only soup.. gods..

Kathyv.. Why did you alter your post to say "poster" now instead of Non-Yank?

[i]Actually.. Now that I am reading this.. this is riduclious.. You want to get in a tiffy because I cracked a joke about Soup.. go right ahead ladies..

Crack all the jokes you want about American Food... trust me.. I won't get offended.. but do not try to tell me that my joking about the title of a soup has some hidden degrotary meaning behind it when it comes to nationalities.

Polwarth, you really have no right to compare my joke here about the name of a soup, to a slang name that someone calls another person. That is just nuts. How can you justify that?

And Kathy.. I didn't take offense to your original "non-yank' reference in your post, you didnt need to change it trust me. I am American, proud of it.

Is this the new way here at Scotland.com to greet New Members? Not every new member here is a troll.. don't be so much on the defensive.

I said it more then once that I was joking.. Trying to make you all laugh. I honestly believe that both of you knew well where I was going with the joke, but you decided to take it a different path. And I honestly for the life of me have no idea why.

Mostly I changed it beacuse when reading through it I thought I sounded a bit high and mighty, and patronizing. I didn't like me coming off that way so in respect to others who read it and may take offense to it, I changed it. Nothing to do with you or any other American..... just my own interpretation of what I have written.

I think I know who you were, if you were here before and you have to remember that we here at s.com have been a bit trolled to death at times so we are a bit leery, I am anyway. I have also been slammed for some of the most innocent remarks so I personally try to be as politically correct as I possibly can.

I didn't understand what you were getting at at first, I think I do now, and you are right it is only soup and it has a catchy name. I don't think any one here wants to get into a tiffy because of it.

woodelf, I hope you are going to be able to get the information you needed even with all the sidetracking going on.
