I've only eaten a couple of cakes made from chemical cake mixes (not made by me, I hasten to add!) - just don't like that weird flavour they seem to give to ordinary cakes like sponge or madeira type cakes.

Well, I suppose they don't break the Trades Descriptions Act as you still do need to 'bake' the mix in the oven....!

That's me tellt!

I'll never 'cheat' again! Honestly, i grew up with those cake mixes and thought they were lovely, but UGH... it was so dry and awful. Really disappointing.

Never again!

That's very true...

I was back in the states for a visit 2 years ago, and i thought everything tasted very odd, and much too salty.

Im sort of going off topic here, but my parents took me into a doughnut shop while i was visiting... i *just about* coped with the massive choice of doughnuts, but when they asked me if i wanted coffee, i said yes, and it wasnt just 'white or black'... they proceeded to bombard me with a list of about 10 different blends of coffee! And then each blend had the option of white or black or flavoured cream and all sorts... My head was spinning. I just wanted a coffee, FFS!

It was very strange.

ANybody interested in a recipe which is NOT Scottish or American but has never had any left overs?

It's pinapple / marzipan cake... simple to bake.

Definitely... ME ME ME!!!

I need to come up with a cake today for a barbeque tomorrow, and i haven't decided what to bake yet. It probably won't be the recipe you are suggesting, i'll make that later. Hmmm, hmmm.... what to make?
