Ooh, they are good with cheese.

Also good with jam though - some things just DO seem to be able to be good at savoury and sweet. Some people like them with honey too, but, well, I don't like honey* so I can't comment on that one.

Happy Celyn today - I have oatcakes!

* until it is turned into mead, of course, then it is fine.

You can spread those flavored cream cheeses on them as well, very yum!

Even plain and single they are a tasty snack!

Tesco are now selling their own sort of 'Lunchables' one of which has a stack of oatcakes, a small tub of philadelphia cheese, and another small tub of smoked salmon spread. It's absolutely gorgeous!

But usually, i buy the cracked black pepper oatcakes and just stick them under the grill with cheese on.

Oatcakes, Pate and Salad

Well, oatcakes, pate and salad makes a fine lunch - and using the cocktail size oatcakes with smoked mackerel pate and is a great snack too.

I have a sister who lives in Germany and when she's back home, she tucks in to oatcakes with butter and marmalade for breakfast! Can't get enough of them.

I like oatcakes with cheese and damson jam - not to everyone's taste, but the tangy damsons complement the cheddar cheese perfectly, IMHO!

I have also seen oatcakes baked like shells for cocktail parties - so that they will hold a soft filling well - prawn cocktail springs to mind.

I hope these ideas help!

Margaret

WOW! Those are fantastic ideas!

...and (hee hee hee) Tesco making oatcake "Lunchables." Well i guess that was bound to happen eventually! I'm glad they are any good.

Margaret, I can understand about the cheddar and damson jam. In upstate New York they make apple pie with cheddar cheese. When i first heard of it I think the very idea short-circuited my brain, but i wanted to try it! Once i did i could understand, particularly if you use extra-sharp cheddar, as it has a tang to it that goes quite well with fruit.

You are all making me hungry... i haven't had my breaky yet!
