Polwarth, is there any chance i can try your oatcake recipe? They would be undoubtedly fresher than what i can find imported.

And what kind of oats do you use? The oats we commonly find here are milled differently than they are in Scotland and Ireland. I think pinhead and steel cut are what you use usually? (Americans use "quick" or "old fashioned" but both look like flakes). I can find the kind of oats you recommend if you tell me what to look for.

LOL! I KNEW that would come up eventually!

I want to come up with some new twists too!

Topped with pear and brie ought to be good.

Also, Kathy mentioned flavored cream cheeses.... i used to visit a bakery in Portsmouth, NH, that would chop raisins and walnuts and add to cream cheese... that was very good!

Stovies with oatcakes crumled over the top.
Scotch broth with oatcakes crumbled on it.
Oatcakes spread with a large lump of Orkney soft cheese which has been rolled in oatmeal.

BUT, the Scotch broth with oatcakes sprinkled..? Sounds Great!
