Hi everyone!
I am thrilled to have found this site!
I am looking for a recipe that my mum used to make. She called them truffles. They were made of crushed digestive biscuits, melted butter, coconut, maybe icing sugar? Mum just rolled into balls, dipped them in melted semi sweet bakers chocolate and put them into the fridge to set. We came to Canada in 1973 from Scotland, and I know that this is one of the recipes she brought with her. It has since disappeared (we moved alot), and neither of us has ever been able to recreate it. Truffles always seemed like such a Christmas tradition, I would love to find the recipe.
Thanks, everyone!

These are the truffles that I used to make for sale at my daughter's school events... My mum used to make them when I was a girl, too!

These are choclate truffles, but I'm sure you could adapt them, using some of the ingredients you suggest, or you could 'roll' the truffles in coconut at the end instead of cocoa powder.

4 oz plain or milk chocolate
Tin of condensed milk
2 oz icing sugar
cocoa powder or drinking choc powder
2oz ground almonds
1oz glace cherries (optional)chopped small
2-3 drops of vanilla essence
2 teaspoon of rum 'essence' or real rum, if you prefer

Grate chocolate into a basin.

Sieve icing sugar to remove all lumps. Mix with chocolate.
Add almonds and a few drops of vanilla essence.
(if you want to add the cherries, cut them up small and add to mixture.)

A little at a time, add just enough condensed milk to make the mixture stick together (do not make it too wet).
Take a small amount of the mixture and roll into little balls. You may find it helpful to put a little dry cocoa in the palm of one hand to stop the mixture getting too hot and sticking to you!

To finish them, roll them in some more cocoa powder or coat in more of the ground almonds. Chill overnight. Put into small petit four papers.
